Flashlog Questions

Q.

My Flashlog doesn't work, what do I do?

A.

Go to the Technical Support page and lodge a technical support form with us. Within seconds you will receive a tech support number via e-mail, which should be attached to the unit when you send it to us. Phoning us dosen't really help as we can't see what is wrong with the unit until our techs had a look at it.

Q.

My Flashlog has a mixture of stereo and mono inputs. How do I connect these?

A.

A stereo input uses a pair of input connectors (such as AL+AR or BL+BR). Each mono input uses a single input connector. For example, if you have one stereo input and two mono inputs, the stereo input would be AL+AR, the first mono input would be BL and the second mono input would be BR.

Q.

There are recurring gaps in my log. What could be causing this?

A.

The most likely cause is a fault on one of the hard disks. The Flashlog should be returned to Innes Corporation for repair.

Q.

Can the firewall in Windows XP Service Pack 2 be enabled on the Flashlog?

A.

It depends on your network. Flashback works fine through the firewall on our own internal network, however we have had reports of problems from others so we ship the loggers with the firewall disabled. If Flashback continues to work with the firewall enabled, you may leave it on.

Q.

I changed the name of my Flashlog and Flashback can no longer find it. What did I do wrong?

A.

Flashback expects the Flashlog’s network name to be FLxxxx, where xxxx is the logger’s serial number. Don’t change it!

Q.

I can’t get Flashback to work with my logger. Can you help?

A.

The Flashback manual contains a detailed troubleshooting guide. Flashback uses Windows’ file sharing to access the Flashlog, so as a quick check make sure the Flashlog itself and its audio directories are visible across your network.

Q.

The LCD display on my logger sometimes goes blank, and it needs to be rebooted to fix it. Why is this happening?

A.

The display is sensitive to electrostatic discharge, and this problem is caused by it being touched by someone who is carrying a static charge. We recommend that the display not be touched and that where possible the logger be installed in an anti-static environment.

Q.

Can the Flashlog be synchronised to an Internet time server?

A.

Yes. On Windows XP-based loggers, there is an Internet time synchronisation tab on the Date and Time Properties dialog box (right-click on the time display in the bottom right hand corner of the screen and select Adjust Date/Time). On Windows 2000-based loggers, the time service can be set up by opening a command prompt window and typing “net time /setsntp:server-url” where server-url is the Internet address of the time server.

Q.

How can I add more channels to my Flashlog?

A.

On Flashlog 5 this is simply a matter of obtaining and fitting a second Auricon sound card. All Flashlog 5 units are shipped with sufficient hard disk space to support 8 mono channels. With earlier models of Flashlog, the process is much more difficult and the logger will need to be returned to us. Be aware that earlier motherboards don’t support hard disks greater than 33GB and this may impose a limitation on any upgrading.

Q.

How can I add more days to my Flashlog?

A.

Your logger will need to be returned to us for this to be done. Be aware of the hard disk capacity issue with earlier motherboards mentioned above.
